a drawing a day

(blue sharpie on cocktail napkin)

Another re-post with a photograph of the original drawing (instead of the usual scan).  The folding was more pronounced here and the portrait follows in places.  I enjoy the conversation between folds and creases and applying the ink, especially around the eyes and mouth.  I should add here that I use several sharpies in these kinds of drawings, from fresh new ones to older, faded ones, which lay down a very soft tone.  You have to coax the ink out of them without rubbing so hard you tear the napkin.  There you have it, trade secrets!
